Ephemeral characters embark upon a journey in this new film by Hornet director Eran Hilleli. Commissioned to create the opening film for the Style Frames conference in NYC, Hilleli was given total creative freedom which he embraced by focusing on visuals rich with characters and landscapes. As this piece was developed for a creative conference, he cleverly plays with the symbolism of all types of people coming together to watch, learn and listen. The film unfolds as a mysterious and intriguing vignette from a larger quest, rising to an epic conclusion with a surprisingly light-hearted twist. By simply placing a light emphasis on narrative, Hilleli creates a space to facilitate interplay between the character driven and atmospheric elements throughout the film.
It was Eran Hilleli’s senior year at Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, Israel, when he created Between Bears — a delicate short film with a minimalist yet bold aesthetic. The video was quickly recognized throughout the animation industry for it’s complex story, subdued color palette and graceful use of negative space, and proceeded to take ‘Best Animation’ at the inaugural Vimeo Awards in New York that same year.
Fascinated by simple shapes and fantastical worlds, Eran has a great appreciation for projects that leave room for interpretation — his work as Animation Director on music video Boy’s Latin for indie rockstar Panda Bear is a prime example. His film Three and a Half Seconds About Life showcases Eran's savvy for beautifully styled animation, his cinematic flair and his spot-on, humorous timing. Posts on Eran’s personal website, Tumblr and Vimeo pages rapidly turn viral sensation, including live show visuals he created for a project commissioned by EDM Artist Skrillex.
