Guilherme Marcondes creates a promo featuring Bruce Parry, star of numerous BBC2 shows including “Amazon”, a journey along the length of the river. Parry is well known for being an activist concerned with the environment and the effects of consumerism and capitalism on the world. In this promo, he is shown powering an “exploitation machine” that consumes everything in sight.
In the promo we open up on Parry going about his morning, exiting his house, and throwing out the garbage. As he walks out he notices his mailbox is mysteriously flickering inside. Peering through the number “2” on the front of the box, we are transported to a barren, dried up world where a man in a suit controls machines powered by humans (in this case Bruce Parry himself). The machines consume plants and animal life and spit out objects, like hamburgers, that are then eaten by Parry. We see Parry continue to run in place and eat, powering the machine, only to have the process repeat again, in an eternal cycle. Guilherme creates an endless landscape of these "exploitation machines" using a mirrored box effect, which heightens the fear one feels while looking inside.
