Becky & Joe bring their unique technicolour style to give an old-school handmade animation process a modern twist in a beautiful and rhythmic new film, Tallest Heights. The film was made in collaboration with New Jersey-based musician Delicate Steve and Vimeo as part of the visionary Hello Again series presented by the Lincoln Motor Company, which invites filmmakers to put a fresh and new spin on to something familiar.
The film echoes the bright and fun tones of Delicate Steve's music with a tropical bonanza of shape and color filled with a host of charming details. To make the visuals, Becky & Joe revisited the physical drawn-on-film animation process made famous by godfathers of experimental animation, Norman Mclaren, Len Lye, and Man Ray, updating it with their trademark eccentric imagery. Using ink, paint, bleach and scratching, they created images on thousands of frames of super 8, 16 and 35mm film and sheets of acetate, as well as layering illustrations over live action super 8 footage.
